Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
A large crowd went to Bethany to see Jesus and Lazarus. The large number of people gathered around Jesus was probably the reason that He was not immediately arrested.
Notice that the crowd is composed “of Jews,” the expression that John uses to refer to those who are normally the enemies of Jesus or, at the least, not disposed to be His followers. They are not coming to just see Jesus, however. The raising of Lazarus has become common knowledge and they have come out of curiosity to see the one who has been raised from the dead. The incredible miracle is undeniable and Lazarus is a great attraction to them, as is the One who did the miracle.
