At these words the Jews were again divided.

This is not the first time recorded in John that the words of Jesus have caused division (John 7:43, 9:16). God’s Son dod not come to earth to try to appease everyone and fit into our way of thinking; He came to tell us the truth and lead us into a relationship with the Father. It was prophesied in the Old Testament that Christ would bring division (Isaiah 8:14) and it was prophesied about Jesus shortly after His birth (Luke 2:34). Jesus Himself even said the same thing (Luke 12:51). When Truth stares you in the face you only have two things you can do: accept it or reject it.

John 7:43  Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.

John 9:16  Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?” So they were divided.

Isaiah 8:14  and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

Luke 2:34  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,

Luke 12:51  Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.
