My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

This is the “new command” that He gave in (13:34).

John 13:34  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

The command of Jesus that His disciples “love each other” is in the present tense, indicating an habitual, ongoing action, that they “keep on loving each other”. However, He uses the aorist tense for “as I have loved you,” making it a once-and-for-all action. His love for them will be undeniably shown in one instant, by the cross.
