If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
Jesus moves from fruitfulness to prayer. Here He notes that the requirement for prevailing prayer is abiding in Him. Previously He noted that prayer must be offered in His name (14:14) and that obedience was necessary. How is remaining in Him a similar requirement to praying in His name and obedience? (If a man is really abiding in Christ, then his prayers will certainly be in Christ’s name, which is being in accordance with everything Jesus is and stands for, and he will already be obeying the commands of Jesus.)
John 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
What does Jesus mean by His words remaining in us?
