Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’?
The disciples are frightened and perplexed. Jesus sees their plight and does something about it even though they do not ask. Notice how gently He treats them. He did not rebuke them for their lack of understanding, but met them where they were. He met their need and He will meet ours. Sometimes before we call He answers. Note the way the Spirit ministers to us in a like manner (Rom 8:26). Even the average shepherd finds the best grass and the safest location to graze his sheep though they don’t ask for it; how much more will the Good Shepherd take care of us?
Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
