Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.

Jesus did not say “Come and wait on Me” nor did He say “Go and dine.” He invited the disciples to come and dine with Him. He invited them into food and fellowship with Himself, and He gives us the same invitation today. His words to us are still “Come and have breakfast.”

None of the disciples ventured to ask Jesus who He was. This seems to indicate that there was some question as to His identity, even up close. We have already seen that there was something different about His appearance after His resurrection. On the morning of His resurrection, Mary Magdalene had not recognized Him (John 20:14), and that morning the disciples in the boat didn’t know it was Jesus on the shore and even Peter had to be told it was Him. Morris observes that “with this unasked question in their minds, it must have been a strange meal.”

John 20:14  At this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus.
