He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

Jesus’ reply has no apparent relation to what she just said, but it was to prepare her to receive that for which she had asked (the thirst-quenching water).  To receive, she needed to believe and to do that she needed to acknowledge her need, which depended upon an awareness of her sinful condition. Jesus was setting her up to get both faith and an awareness of her need.
