Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias),
“Some time after this” = after the death of John the Baptist and the return of the 12 whom Jesus had sent out unto all of Israel to preach and heal the sick. #Mat 14:1-21, Luke 9:1-10 The feeding of the five thousand occurs a year or so after the previous chapter with the healing of the man at Bethesda and exactly a year before the crucifixion of Christ in Jerusalem.
There is an interesting contrast between the banquet of Herod resulting in the murder of John the Baptist and the banquet of Jesus which met the needs of so many.
“Jesus crossed . . .” = Jesus went secretly by boat with His disciples to a desert area by the town of Bethsaida on the northeast edge of the sea of Galilee, which is also called Gennesaret, and in the Hebrew of the Old Testament, Chinnereth, which means “harp-shaped.” It was later (after Jesus but before John wrote his gospel) named “Tiberias” by the Romans after the newly constructed (A.D.22) town of the same name.
