This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live for ever.”
Jesus probably laid His hand upon Himself as He spoke these words and summarized what He has just said. If Christ is the bread that came down from heaven, where did the manna come from?
Note the contrast Jesus makes between “he who feeds” and “your forefathers,” because it is significant. Jesus has regularly used the singular to indicate those in a right relationship with Him. As Morris points out, “Faith must be personal. There is more to it than being a member of a group.” (381)
