What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
The saying of Jesus greatly puzzled them and made them uneasy. It even puzzled Peter later (John 13:37). Just when we think we have God all figured out, He throws us a curveball. He is not going to do things the same way all the time — remember that He is the Creator — He likes to do things differently. No wonder we can’t figure Him out!
John 13:37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
He is also on a different level of existence than we are (Isaiah 46:9, 55:8-9). He is the only self-existence Being (Ex 3:14); all others, including humans and supernatural beings, owe their existence to Him. Since He is so vastly different than every other living being, we cannot hope to think as He does.
Isa 46:9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
Isa 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Ex 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
And lastly, God is in charge (Ps 103:19) and He will do things His way, and not yours. Don’t ever think you have all the answers or try to figure God out. Just listen to his Voice and follow Him and don’t let your own preconceived ideas or theologies get in the way of what He wants to tell you. In other words, let God be God and just enjoy the ride!
Ps 103:19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
