You go to the Feast. I am not yet going up to this Feast, because for me the right time has not yet come.”

Jesus did eventually go up to the feast, but not in the manner hoped for by His brothers. They wanted Him to enter triumphantly, as the Messiah. He would do exactly that six months from now at the Passover, but now is not the time for that type of entry, so Jesus is not going up to Jerusalem publicly as his brothers desired. When Jesus does go up to the Feast of Tabernacles, it is not as the Messiah and, as Temple points out, “it is not as one of the pilgrim-worshippers but as a Prophet.”

Either Jesus was planning all along to go up to the Feast, but at a later time or He wasn’t and something or Someone later changed His mind.

Now is not always the best time to do something. Are we to be like Jesus or His brothers? God wants us to wait on Him and His timing. Often we get caught in the trap of the immediately pressing and don’t even seek God as to His timing.

Isa 40:31  (KJV) But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
