Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him.
Many put their faith in Him even though most seemingly rejected Him. There are two things we may learn about witnessing from this passage.
Firstly, don’t be afraid to speak of dying in one’s sin and going to hell if Christ is rejected (Rom 1:16, 18). If the message of grace is refused, then the result of that refusal must be shown, but only under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is not an easy thing for us to do.
Rom 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Rom 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
Secondly, don’t get discouraged by rejection of the gospel. It happened to Jesus and it will happen to you. You need to trust that God will use His Word to work deeply in the heart of the person you have spoken to (Isaiah 55:11).
Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
