Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me.
“If…” the conditional form Jesus uses indicates that God is not their Father and they do not love Jesus. Again, the Jews are faced with a decision and the resulting judgment from their decision of what they will do with Jesus.
Many claim to have God as their Father, but the real test of whether that is true or not is whether they love His Son or not. If someone is really a child of God, then they will love Jesus (1 John 5:1) and if they love Jesus, they will do what He says (John 14:15). These Jewish leaders are proving that they do not really love God. What about you? Do you love Jesus? Do you do what He says?
