Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.

Jesus doesn’t directly answer their questions, and He doesn’t really have any need to, for if they would give up their preconceived notions of what the Messiah was going to be and grasp the revelation that Jesus was giving them, they would have their answer.

“You are going to have the light just a little while longer.” Jesus says this because He is about to be taken from them.

“Walk while you have the light” In other words, use it or lose it. (2 Cor 6:2) This is a principle that operates today. If we don’t act on the revelation of God, we will miss our opportunity. We must make the most of every opportunity. Can you think of any personal examples?

“darkness” = They did not have street lights in that time and darkness understandably brought terror to the hearts of travellers and was to be avoided at all costs. In addition, it is very difficult to know where you are going when you are in the darkness (Isaiah 50:10).

Isaiah 50:10  Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.
